Have a look at the video to learn what the Angel Business Development Program is all about!

2012 is the fourth year for the Angel Business Development Program. Originally the program started as a simple business plan competition for students and quickly eveolved into a two day business symposium. The program takes place in March each year and this year will be during March 22 and 23, 2012. The deadline to apply is Midnight, March 2, 2012.

For applicants that get accepted into the program, it is an all expense paid event including food, travel, and accomodations. This program is open to any student currently enrolled in a post secondary institution in Newfoundland and Labrador at the time applications are due.

The Angel Business Development Program has grown into a program which caters to the needs of young entrepreneurs within Newfoundland and Labrador. Not only is there the opportunity to win up to $5000 in capital to start or expand a business, but a networking component which allows students the rare opportunity to sit with industry specialists one-on-one to get their questions answered. This allows students the opportunity to make educated decisions around their business ideas and get started with a solid foundation.

Day one of the program is the Business Plan Competition. Out of all the applications received, the top three business plans are selected to present their businesses in front of a panel of local business professionals. The winner of this competition will receive $5000 in capital to go towards starting or expanding their business.

Don't worry, you don't require a business plan to apply to attend this event because on day two the networking sessions take place. We understand not everyone has the knowledge required to write a business plan but maybe that's the type of information you're looking for during the networking sessions. As long as you have an idea and are passionate about it, you can take full advantage of this program. The networking and consulting sessions are a rare opportunity because they are specific to your needs. During the application process you'll be asked to identify areas where you would like more information that can help you take your idea or business to the next level. If accepted to attend the program, on day two of the event you'll be given a 30 minute time slot with each of the people you selected on your application form. This could be 30 minutes with a lawyer, accountant, privacy expert, anyone who you identifed as someone you'd like to speak with.

Keep in mind, this is also an amazing opportunity to meet 40 other students from across the province who have the same drive and passion as you do and are eager to get their ideas of the ground.

This answer to that question is always any idea qualifies, it doesn't matter how simple or complex. However, it is your job to explain why your idea has merit in your application form. Why do you believe in the idea? Why is the product or service? Why should it be explored further? If you can answer those questions in your application, you have an excellent chance at being accepted into the program.
